Nailsea Tithe Barn: Conditions of Hire

General Conditions

The hirer shall sign the booking form and in doing so agrees to be bound by its conditions.

The hirer is responsible for the welfare of patrons and the security of the building during the hire period.

The hirer must be over 18 years of age.

The Tithe Barn operates a No Smoking policy anywhere within the building and its immediate vicinity, except in the external designated smoking area adjacent to the cycle racks.

The Council and the Tithe Barn Trust reserves the right to refuse or cancel any booking with good reason.

Use of the hire spaces

The hirer shall be responsible for the security, supervision of patrons and for maintaining good order throughout the period of hire.  A member of the hiring body must be present from the time of hiring to receive responsibility from the Caretaker and to hand back the security at the end of the hire period.

AT NO TIME MUST THE BUILDING BE LEFT UNATTENDED.

Max number of people permitted by the Fire Authority in the Tithe Hall is 120 and for the Hannah More Room, 50.

The caretaker is responsible for setting out furniture at the commencement of hire and returning it to store at the end of the period unless alternative arrangements have been made. Guidance must be sought from the Caretaker for seating arrangements – where seats are placed in rows strict rules apply regarding the spacing and width of gangways.

No catering may take place without prior consent.   The kitchen must be left in a clean and tidy condition. Use of the appliances must be confirmed with booking.

Limited car parking is available by prior agreement.

The damage waiver fee will be returnable provided the building, fixtures, fittings and any equipment used are left in good order. Any resulting damage or extra cleaning required will be charged to the hirer.  All refuse for disposal must be placed and secured in black sacks. 

Hire fees will be reviewed every year and regular hirers will be notified of any increase.

Fees and Cancellation

Full payment for bookings is required at least 2 weeks in advance. A 100% charge is made for cancellations within 7 days of the date booked.

Licenses

Operating hours are Sunday to Thursday 08.00-23.00 and Friday and Saturday 08.00-00.00; the building will be closed and locked for midnight.

The hall is licensed for the consumption of alcohol on Sunday and Thursday 12.00-22.00 and Friday and Saturday 12.00-23.00 and the Licensee has exclusive rights for the supply of alcohol and soft drinks or to charge corkage. 

Alcohol supplied on the premises may only be consumed on the premises). No alcohol may be brought onto the premises other than that under the control of the hirer.

The hirer must comply with the Public Entertainments License, as displayed on the notice board in the entrance hall.

Liabilities

Nailsea Town Council and the Tithe Barn Trust accept no liability for any injury to persons, nor for the loss or damage to the property of persons hiring the premises other than within the terms of a relevant public liability policy. Hirers should indemnify themselves against any such injury, loss or damage.

Fire precautions

Hirers are not permitted to use smoke machines, lasers, strobes, real flames, firearms, special effects equipment, pyrotechnics or lighted candles.

Patrons MUST NOT obstruct fire doors. Fire extinguishers are available and their location should be noted before the event, along with the location of the exit fire doors. 

In the event that the fire alarm is raised ALL Patrons must evacuate the building as soon as possible and in a safe manner.  Assistance must be given to any person with a disability.

Restrictions

 The hirer shall not sublet the premises.

The hirer shall not use the premises for any unlawful purpose or for any lewd or salacious purpose which could bring the Tithe Barn into disrepute.

The hirer shall not bring onto the premises anything which could endanger persons or the premises, or which could invalidate any insurance policies. 

NOTHING MUST BE FIXED TO THE WALLS OR OTHER SURFACES, ON EITHER A PERMANENT OR TEMPORARY BASIS.

The Tithe Barn will not take bookings that include amplified disco or rock band styles of music.

Levels of noise created during the hire must be at a level in accordance with the Noise Abatement Act. There is an automatic noise limiter which shuts down the power supplier when triggered. A hirer who triggers the noise limiter will lose some, or all, of their damage waiver.

History of the barn

Nailsea Tithe Barn dates from around 1480. It was a basic agricultural barn for storing crops taken as taxes by the Church. The Barn has since been significantly modified over 500 years, especially when it was converted to use as a school in 1789.
