What's On

The Tithe Barn plays host to a wide range of regular events, from weekly art classes, yoga and line dancing classes to the monthly meeting of the local Wine Circle.

Monthly Tithe Barn Tours

The Tithe Barn's Heritage Development Officer takes a look at the architectural features of the medieval barn, and explains more about its use as a school since Hannah More founded the Nailsea Great School which opened on the site in 1792. Next tour Monday 20th February 2011 at 10.00.

History of the barn

Nailsea Tithe Barn dates from around 1480. It was a basic agricultural barn for storing crops taken as taxes by the Church. The Barn has since been significantly modified over 500 years, especially when it was converted to use as a school in 1789.
